After having a date say it was their favorite book, The Forever War had to move off my to-read shelf. Originally published in 1974, Joe Haldeman’s intergalactic alien war novel won both the Hugo and Nebula. Thus far it’s exactly as expected – a true war novel, just set in space. A lot of the battle descriptions and training scenes remind me of Ender’s Game and the suit concept definitely inspired Revelation Space. It’s a quick read thus far; very episodic and concise. I see why it appeals to that man – just about a young soldier finding his footing in the army while grappling with the moral questions raised by war. Except in space. Review to follow. Anyone have suggestions on what I should read next?
