Published in 2000, Revelation Space is what is (apparently) called a “space opera novel” by Alastair Reynolds. The book chronicles primarily three points of view, all that are obviously intertwined and headed for an eventual merge. I enjoy this sort of plot structure, keeps pacing fresh and allows for jumps in space and time to be easily understood and assimilated into the broader narrative. What I’m really enjoying about the novel thus far is the diversity of characters and motives – too often in sci-fi it’s painted as a blatant us versus them narrative and I like that this deals primarily with the grey area of truth. Excited to wrap this book up – which I imagine will happen soon given I’m on vacation in Puerto Rico for the time being – updates to follow.
